Donald S. Nelson
Architect

Donald S. Nelson (1907-1992) and Walter W. Ahlschlager were the architects for the Mercantile Bank Building which was built between 1941 and 1943. Located in Dallas, Texas, the thirty-three story Mercantile was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.

The Mercantile was the last skyscraper in Dallas constructed of masonry, and it remained the city's tallest building until 1954. Due to the high demand for construction materials this masonry skyscraper was the only one of its kind built in the United States during the war.

Among Mr. Nelson's other major architectural contributions are the Broadmoor Building in Hobbs, NM; the Grand Lodge Memorial Temple in Waco, TX; the Dallas County Government Center in Love Field, Dallas, TX; the original passenger terminal at Love Field; and the Scottish Rite Library and Museum in Waco, TX.
