Typical School Bus in 1937

The school buses were painted the school colors: blue and gold. Each one was required to have a teacher as a bus supervisior. The teacher rode in the trailer with the children in order to watch them and maintain peace.

The elementary school students were dismissed before the high school students, so the bus picked up the younger children and then went to the loading area behind the high school where they waited for the older children.

On the day of the explosion, this is the type of bus Lonnie Barber was driving. Read about Mr. Barber and his dedication to duty and selfless actions.
